Top ten tips for a restyled winter
Get ready for a cosy winter following Sue Locke’s top ten tips for restyling your wardrobe and clothes
Cosy up this winter with a gilet made in fake fur and wear it over a lightweight wool jacket for a Dolce & Gabbana look.
Give a plain dress interest by tying a length of wide velvet ribbon around the waist and sewing on a corsage of fabric flowers.
For an ethnic skirt at a fraction of a designer price make your own using cloth decorated with woollen embroidery from your local furnishing store.
Scraps of exquisite fabric needn’t go to waste. Use them as pockets, epaulettes or cuff trims on a plain knitted cardigan or jacket.
If you’ve been sewing sheath dresses this summer don’t file the pattern away yet. Make an autumnal version in lightweight wool and slip a short cardigan over the top if you feel the cold.
Give your knitted winter gloves a lift by adding colour-matched fringing to the cuffs.

Over-sized necklaces are a major fashion statement this autumn. Make your own by sewing unique vintage buttons to a length of satin ribbon.
Rhinestones, especially large ones, still make an appearance in current collections. Scatter them down the front opening of your winter coat and give a lift to dark colours.
One of the most eye-catching ways to update a plain evening dress is to make a gold or silver sequinned bolero.
If a new skirt is on your ‘to-do’ list then why not look for a panelled style. Create something special by alternating the panels with strips of lined black lace.
